Allendale Columbia School seeks a dynamic, collaborative and experienced full-time Dean of Students (DOS) to serve as the leader of the Student Support Teams. The teams consist of the Dean of Students, The Middle and Upper School Learning Advocate, the Director of Equity and Community Engagement, the College Counselor, and the Middle and Upper School Counselor. The role of the Dean of Students is to work with teachers, students, and administration to maintain a strong student culture. The DOS is responsible for implementing a support structure and development programming that addresses the social, mental and emotional well-being of all students. In addition, the DOS will support a strong and positive staff culture. This role is intended to ensure we continue to focus on our mission of preparing students to be global citizens who set life goals, and prepare them for the next step beyond Allendale Columbia. The individual hired for this role will report to the Middle and Upper School Division Heads and work closely with students, faculty, the Director of Equity and Community Engagement, and Student Support Teams. This full-time position begins July 2022.

Major Areas of Responsibility:
- Oversee and coordinate the Student Support Teams (SST) in Middle and Upper School divisions, as well partner with SST members to assist them in their roles (college counseling, learning advocate)
- Oversee student conduct, discipline, attendance, and student activities programming
- Help maintain a discipline system that embraces restorative practices, always with the goal of ensuring our students are developing into people of strong character;
- Create and perpetuate a culture where students feel agency in their daily life and security in knowing their social, emotional, and physical needs will be met;
- Work with Division Heads and SST Team to develop the programs, policies, and culture to support student wellness, growth, and achievement in line with the school’s mission;
- Partner closely with the Director of Equity & Inclusion to ensure that diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice are a critical component of all areas of the Upper & Middle School
- Facilitate consistent communication with parents, specifically around student issues, plans, and progress;
- Oversee and coordinate the grade level advisory program with advisors, including the development of advisory programming and communicating advisor expectations;
- Support the community in conversations about upholding the school’s core values and help students align their actions to those values;
- Responsible for and facilitating the annual review and updating of the Student-Parent Handbook.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors’ Degree in Education (required)
- Master’s Degree (preferred)
- Five years full-time classroom teaching experience is strongly preferred, preferably in grades 6-12
- School administration experience (preferred)
- A team player, with a strong work ethic, and consistent follow through
- Very strong understanding of the social and emotional development of teenagers
- Exceptionally effective at building lasting and meaningful relationships with Middle- and Upper School-aged students and their families
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong track record of student achievement in past roles
- A strong sense of personal accountability for school-wide student achievement and social-emotional growth
- Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination
