R-MA is seeking an ESL teacher and Coordinator of International Programming that can teach in an ever-changing world and change as needed but also support and advocate for our diverse international student population on the rewards and challenges of going to school in another country. The ideal candidate will be excited about the challenges and rewards of such a position. We are searching for teachers that can RISE to any challenge, push beyond expectations, and deliver a quality education to our students - in any environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching
- Demonstrates instructional leadership by modeling student centered instruction that is rich in 21st century teaching and learning pedagogy and reflects current trends and best practices
- Use and apply guiding principles, strategic initiatives, and current trends and research in curriculum and instruction in the field of English as an Additional Language
- Promote digital citizenship and infuse technology meaningfully into instruction
- Use Understanding by Design in course development and foster student-centered learning and authentic assessment throughout the curriculum
- Uphold high expectations for all students and strive to meet the individual needs of each student.
- Teach sections in intermediate to advanced English language development in reading, writing, speaking and listening but also teach grade level history classes for ESL students.
- Provide additional support for international students outside of the classroom to include tutoring or providing extra study sessions during evening Learning Lab
- Teach a summer school ESL course
- Coach a sport - either Head coach or Assistant coach
Coordinating International Programming
- Develop on and off campus programming for international students
- Plan and execute a number of seminars throughout the year on topics related to international students and their transition to an American school.
- Assure a smooth transition for international students to the R-MA community and act as an advocate for international students and their families
- Facilitate celebrations of holidays, cultures, and events
- Assist admissions in retention of international students
- Assist and advise international students on their F-1 Visa status
- Act as a mentor to a group of 7-10 students.
- Commit to a duty rotation of 10 duty days per school year
- Must believe in and support the mission of the Academy
- Bachelor’s degree in ESOL or related field
- Minimum of 2 years of ESOL teaching experience, preferably experience delivering teaching marked by pedagogical innovation and best practices
- Competency and comfort with Apple operating system, applications, and devices
- Student-centered, dynamic educator who uses a variety of instructional approaches
- Must enjoy working with Upper School students – must be creative, consistent, and empathetic
- Working knowledge of the developmental needs of Upper School students and how to connect effectively
- Proven track record of success with student achievement at the Upper School level
- Strategic thinker
- Ability to balance the needs of students, families, and faculty
- Excellent communicator with ability to produce ideas, communicate them, make recommendations, and positively influence the outcome
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish solid positive working relationships
- Ability to exercise sound judgment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of proprietary and confidential information with the highest ethical standards and meticulous attention to detail
- Prefer private, boarding school experience and be excited about the challenges and rewards of working in such an environment
- Must be fully COVID vaccinated or have medical or religious exemption
