Upper School Physics Teacher
The Doane Stuart School seeks an experienced high school/upper school Physics teacher for the 2022-2023 school year. We are seeking an energetic, ambitious, and hard-working individual who connects easily with students, faculty, and the community. The Upper School program focuses on preparing students in grades 9 - 12 for college and life. Doane Stuart is built around rigorous intellectual exploration and joyful discovery. Students are challenged to think deeply about concepts and ideas, to make learning personal and relevant, to ask questions, and to look for broader truths and understanding. We are looking for candidates who demonstrate a student-centered approach to teaching and learning, attention to the “whole student,” strong differentiation skills, a commitment to culturally responsive pedagogy, and a strong grounding in best practices.
The school expects candidates to have a willingness and ability to use differentiated instruction in the classroom. The successful candidate will be asked to develop a hands-on, student-centered curriculum where technology is used as a teaching tool as well as a student resource. The successful candidate will be part of a close-knit teaching and learning community. A high degree of teamwork, collaboration, and communication are a must; a sense of humor is appreciated. Primary Responsibilities
The Upper School Physics teacher is a member of the school faculty and is responsible for all of the duties thereof. A successful candidate will possess a solid background in Physics and Physical Science. Ability to teach Physics emphasizing hands-on, inquiry-based, lessons that utilize mathematical modeling, to establish the physical properties, concepts, and fundamental laws of the physical universe at micro and macroscopic level. Additional knowledge of teaching mathematics or engineering is preferred, as is experience with Google Classroom. Though teaching Physics is the primary responsibility, an additional desire to be involved in extracurricular activities is preferred. Additional responsibilities for all full-time teachers include partnering with families, assessing and evaluating student progress, advising students, supporting admissions work, and participating in faculty meetings, teacher conferences, and school events, and other duties as assigned.
