Open Position: Upper School Biology & Chemistry Teacher
Reports To: Director of the Upper School
When Needed: 2022-2023 Academic Year
University Prep is seeking a talented, compassionate and engaging Biology Teacher to teach laboratory-based, Upper School Biology courses with the flexibility to teach Chemistry and the possibility to teach other Upper School Science topics for 11th/12th grades. We are looking for a teacher who can help students connect biology concepts to contemporary world issues. Job Summary:
Under minimal supervision, and on a full-time basis, teaches Upper School science courses as needed.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Teaches multiple sections of Biology, with the possibility of teaching Chemistry and other Upper School science topics.
- Provides classroom instruction and management
- Serves as advisor to 10-12 students
- Collaborates with colleagues, students, parents and administrators as appropriate
- Actively participates in the life of the school outside of class
- Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the school's documents
- Establishes and cultivates community relations by maintaining open dialogue with all of the school's constituencies
- Vigorously engages in their own professional development
- Since safety and security are everyone's responsibility, takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials and facilities
- Performs other duties as assigned
Required Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in Biology or related field.
- Ability to also teach Chemistry preferred
- Ability to teach other science topics preferred
- Master's degree preferred
- 5+ years teaching experience preferred

- Demonstrates knowledge and skill in preparing lesson to appeal to a variety of learning styles, needs, and accommodations
- Demonstrates skill to use appropriate formative and summative assessments and strategies in the classroom
- Commitment to teaching the whole child
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivity
- A working understanding of UDL UbD, and Grading for Equity concepts
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with all constituents in the school community
- Ability to maintain confidential information
- Ability and flexibility to use Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suites, learning management systems, online meeting and conferencing applications, and operating Audio/Visual equipment
- Interest in coaching sports and/or working in our outdoor program is preferable
