Wilmington Friends School is seeking an early years educator for a full-time position as a combined Early Years Floater and After School Program (ASP) Coordinator. This position requires someone who loves working with children, understands the developmental needs of preschool through kindergarten aged children, and has the organizational and leadership skills to help others work with these children effectively. As the Early Years Floater, the person will be responsible for assisting teachers in preschool and pre-kindergarten during the school day. At the end of the day, this faculty member will transition to their role as Early Years ASP coordinator. This role is responsible for leading the childcare for preschool through kindergarten aged children, mentoring Early Years ASP counselors, and completing administrative tasks to help the program run smoothly. This person will also be expected to work and/or supervise counselors during the weeks of child care, as needed.
The Early Years Floater responsibilities will include:
- Providing flexible coverage during the day to assist with particular students and/or group activities
- Assisting with diaper changes and toileting
- Providing extra supervision during the day, especially during lunch and naptime
- Providing coverage for teachers to participate in planning or professional development
- Managing the transition for Early Years students who attend ASP, including liaising with teachers and parents, as needed, to share pertinent information about a child’s experience
- Fulfilling other duties as assigned by the Head of Lower School and Assistant Head of Lower school
The Early Years ASP Coordinator responsibilities include:
- Communicating the goals of the EY ASP program and childcare to counselors and parents
- Designing and leading age appropriate experiences and structures for EY ASP children
- Mentoring the EY ASP counselors to work with students within those structures and meet the goals of the program on an ongoing basis
- Preparing the physical spaces to meet those goals
- Supporting counselors to resolve conflict with children - teaching them strategies to navigate difficult situations and stepping in when necessary to take the lead
- Communicating with parents proactively and/or reactively to update them on their child’s experience in a timely manner
- Maintaining accurate records, including schedule and attendance
- Working with outside clubs to offer a variety of activities for children
Other tasks include:
- Organizing and preparing the snack for each day and week
- Managing the paperwork associated with registration for outside club activities
- Managing the supplies needed for group activities (i.e. arts and crafts)
- Supervise the bathroom schedule and supplies, including diaper changes as needed
- Helping with the counselor schedule to ensure coverage each group is properly staffed and sure ratios are in compliance daily.:
- Completing training in Emergency Response Plan, first aid, aed, blood borne pathogens and WFS major policies and guidelines.
