Health Office Coordinator
Tandem Friends School, a co-ed, Quaker, 5th-12th grade independent day school in Charlottesville, Virginia, seeks a Health Office Coordinator. Ideal candidates for this position will have experience in a medical or school nurse setting, have a keen attention to detail to establish and ensure adherence to medical protocols, and have patience and compassion to treat the medical needs of adolescents. The candidate must have at a minimum MAT, CPR, First-Aid and Epi-Pen certification or ability to immediately become certified. The position also has front desk/receptionist duties such as answering school emails and phones and assisting with visitor and student check-in procedures.
The Health Office Coordinator will:
- Attend to students with medical need:
- Triage sick or hurt students.
- Document all visits to the Health Office in medical log, notify/communicate with parents, as necessary.
- Administer approved medications and medications as prescribed by a physician.
- Record and maintain student health records in Magnus Health System and in paper files including annual physicals, immunization records and medical permission forms. Collaborate with the Director of Technology to update health forms annually.
- Coordinate medical and first aid training for school employees and record staff medical certifications.
- Monitor student medical records and compliance with State regulations, HIPAA and VAIS policies. Submit data/reports to appropriate organizations/authorities.
- Stay up to date on evolving regulations that govern school health matters.
- Inventory and maintain a well-organized and properly stored stock of common medical supplies.
- Maintain properly stocked and labeled basic bloodborne pathogen kits in classrooms.
- Maintain properly stocked medical kits in each building. Ensure staff knows the location of each kit and know which staff members in that building have MAT training.
- Organize first aid/medical aid kits for day and overnight field trips, educate school staff as needed on relevant students’ medical needs/medication needs.
- Assist in developing health-related protocols (e.g. concussions). Communicate and update protocols as needed.
- Serve as a member of TFS Emergency Team and attend Emergency Team Meetings.
- Train all front desk staff in health procedures and ensure compliance with protocols.
This is a part-time position, approximately 20-25 hours/week, with the possibility of expanding into a full-time role. Starts summer 2022.
