Latin is seeking a full-time Dean of Students for 11th and 12th grades.
Reporting directly to the Upper School Director, the Dean of Students will:
- promote a school culture that embodies our values of excellence, community, and integrity
- partner with each student to develop, execute, and document a comprehensive plan of academic, co-curricular, and community pursuits that reflects their authentic interests
- provide and coordinate support for students facing adversity
- teach in the affective ed program or an academic class each semester

Student Advising
- Monitors academic progress of each student alongside the advisor
- Works closely with advisors, students, families, and faculty in advance of course scheduling
- Devises plans in response to academic or behavioral concerns
- Partners with the Assistant Director, Dean of Community Learning, and Advisors on designing advising program
- Meets with College Counseling Staff on students transitioning into their program and, as needed, when acute issues arise
- Plans pre-departure and re-entry meetings for students studying abroad and their families to ensure continuity of academic progress and connection to the community
- Assists the student support team with medical leaves as needed.
- Maintains detailed, accurate understanding of Latins curricular and co-curricular options

Student Accountability
- Administers and enforces school policies and disciplinary procedures
- Notifies faculty and support staff currently engaged with students of behavioral incidents at outset of issue and details nature of resolution
- Uses information collected by attendance clerk to hold students accountable for attendance each day
- Contributes to revising Student-Family Handbook

School Culture and Climate
- Visits classes and advisories to build rapport, observe behavior of students of concern, and understand social dynamics of the school, particularly the 11th and 12th grades
- In concert with advisors, fields concerns from students/families about their experience with peers or faculty/staff and problem-solves
- Collaborates regularly with the Dean of Community Learning and the Director of Student Life
- Attends and participates in student events, which may often take place outside of regular work hours
- Maintains a strong presence in the school community events, including athletics and performances
Additional information:
- Works closely and collaboratively with the Dean of Students, 9th/10th grades
- Serves as a member of the Upper School administrative team, Student Support Team, and additional teams and committees across the school relevant to the role.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Upper School Director, Assistant Director, or Head of School
Minimum requirements:
- Bachelors degree in related field
- Experience in managing student discipline
- Demonstrated leadership experience
Preferred experience:
- Masters degree in related field
- 3+ years of experience in an administrative role
