The Director of Communications will be responsible for advancing the mission of Live Oak School by sharing our stories with the internal and external community through multiple platforms including web, print, social media, and video. The Director of Communications will work in tandem with the Director of Advancement to manage the School’s communications strategy, branding, and messaging. The Director of Communications will collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and execute initiatives and cultivate inclusive, positive relationships within the school community. The ideal candidate brings a creative, collaborative spirit. They should demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, proven project management experience, and a strong background in content creation and digital communications.
The Director of Communications reports to the Director of Advancement and is a member of Live Oak’s administrative team. The position is full time.
Establish strategies and manage the platforms through which Live Oak communicates with its current and prospective constituents: web, print, video, weekly electronic newsletter, social media, and marketing collateral.

Craft and publish the weekly electronic newsletter.

Define and implement a vision for the Live Oak’s website design, structure, and content management, including Family Portal.

Produce the bi-annual magazine, What’s Brewing.

Manage Live Oak’s social media presence on Instagram, Facebook, and Linkedin, and other platforms as necessary

Document school events through video and photography.

Identify and manage outside vendors, contractors, and consultants related to marketing and communication projects

Attend to the archiving of photos, and media.
Develop, refine, and manage the school’s messaging priorities and strategy.

Ensure Live Oak’s marketing efforts and all communication are being developed and delivered with equity and inclusion at their core

Participate in planning and messaging for internal communications, including orientation, opening weeks, and staff portal to ensure thorough and consistent communication to all faculty and staff.

Collaborate with Admissions to ensure consistency in brand voice and identity in marketing materials, events, and other engagement activities for prospective families.

Ensure accessibility to information through language translation when appropriate.
Advise the communications activities for the Live Oak community: faculty and staff, PGA, Board of Trustees, and other volunteers.

Provide leadership communication support to the Head of School and other Senior Leadership Team members.

As needed, work closely with the Head of School to strategize and implement crisis and otherwise responsive communications plans on a variety of issues

Provide oversight and support of school mailings, invitations, announcements, and marketing materials generated by other departments and committees to ensure consistency in messaging. Assist in writing and production when appropriate.
Collaborate with the advancement team on the development and implementation of strategic priorities.

Collaborate with the Director of Advancement to ensure brand consistency across school projects and that communication efforts are aligned with fundraising strategy.

Development of new events to engage and steward current families, grandparents, and alumni.

Promote positive relationships between the advancement office, business office and all internal and external constituents of the school by being professional, maintaining the highest level of confidentiality, and remaining present and responsive in formal and informal settings.

Collaborate with the members of the advancement office and the administrative team to advance annual department and administrative goals.

Support everyday needs of the school being present for weekly student drop off and pick up shifts, as well as lunch.

Commit to ongoing professional development and growth to reflect the demands of the position and the strategic priorities of the school.

Attend evening and weekend events as required.

Attend Live Oak’s annual all-school camp.

Significant, relevant experience in a communications, marketing, and public relations
-
Demonstrated ability to think inclusively and strategically as well as manage and operationalize/execute plans

An exceptional eye for visual storytelling and communication

Excellent writing and editing skills, with proven ability to produce clear and engaging copy for various channels as well as assiduous attention to detail; strong copy editing skills

Outstanding verbal communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate with a variety of stakeholders

Strong technology skills in Google Workspace, Adobe Creative Cloud, Blackbaud web integration, or other content management systems. Proficiency in multiple social media platforms

Discretion and confidentiality. Willingness and ability to pitch in, even without explicitly being asked

Required education and experience

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, English, Journalism, or a related field

Experience working in schools, non-profits, or other dynamic settings serving multiple constituents
-
Experience in web editing

Familiarity with Spanish/other language a plus
