Charleston Collegiate School is currently seeking an experienced, dynamic, and nurturing Middle School Science Teacher for the 2022-2023 school year. This is a rare opportunity to join a talented and innovative teaching team.
We particularly welcome candidates that have experience of working with 5th and 6th grade students, and are committed to the delivery of science through enriching and rigorous projects. A commitment to interdisciplinary learning, and developing other essential skills such as writing is key.
Candidates should not only have excellent teaching and interpersonal skills but also possess a deep understanding of developmentally appropriate curriculum, a passion for working with 5th and 6th grade students, and a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The Science Teacher should have:
? Dedication to diversity, equity and inclusion
? Experience teaching in middle school grades
? Understanding of the developmental needs of middle school students
? Competence with student-centered instructional approaches such as project-based learning
? An inquisitive professional learning stance
? Ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced environment
? Excellent written and verbal communication skills
? Knowledge of technology to enhance teaching and learning
? Experience partnering with parents and guardians
Primary Responsibilities:
? Provide direct, differentiated instruction for students, focusing on 21st century skills like collaboration, critical thinking, and problem solving.
? Evaluate student growth, progress and areas for improvement.
? Implement instructional strategies and use clear and consistent classroom management in concert with the school’s core values and philosophy.
? Identify, select, modify, and create instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and learning needs, in collaboration with grade level teammates.
? Provide instruction through student-centered instructional methods.
? Use classroom management systems that are focused on students’ social emotional needs.
? Provide a positive environment in which students are able to engage actively in meaningful learning experiences.
? Communicate and partner effectively with students, parents, teachers, and other professionals on a regular basis.
? Model professional and ethical standards when working with students, families, and colleagues.
