POSITION DESCRIPTION – ASSISTANT DEAN OF STUDENTS
General:
The Storm King School is looking for an Assistant Dean of Students to support our student life program. The Assistant Dean would be one of two Assistants, both of whom report to the Dean of Students and the Head of School. The Assistant Dean would live in campus. In addition to these duties, the Assistant Dean would teach a class or possibly two and coach a season or possibly two. The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years' experience in independent schools, ideally in boarding schools, and be looking to move a starting-level administrative role.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Supports the Dean of Students in the supervision of residential life program, non-academic student affairs, activities, health, and welfare
- Works with the Dean of Students to develop and implement comprehensive residential life program
- Works with the Dean of Students to develop, execute and monitor all operating policies and procedures relating to residential life, student health, safety and welfare
- Helps to execute a consistent, fair and equitable program to ensure proper conduct, comportment and appearance of the student body
- Cultivate and manage positive relationships and good communications with parents and guardians
- Work with other Deans to maintain attendance and student records
- Participation in Dean on Duty rotation and Weekend Dean rotation
- Weekend duty team (in consideration of campus housing “condition of employment”)
- Teach and/or coach some class(es)/sport(s)
- Other duties as assigned by the Head of School and Dean of Students

5-10 years experience in independent schools, preferably boarding schools and/or residential camps. A bachelor's degree in an academic area and/or a student-life related field. MA preferred. Teaching experience. Some playing and/or coaching experience. The successful candidate will be available to start in early August.
