Brandon Hall School seeks a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our community in the position of School Nurse starting July 2022. This position is responsible for the day-to-day management of student health, caring for student medical emergencies, and serving as a liaison to the community on medical and health issues providing resources and education to students, families, and staff.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to ill or injured students during the school day.
- Perform nursing assessments and take appropriate steps to address student medical and health needs, working in concert with the and other faculty/staff members.
- Track student illness, notifying appropriate parties of communicable diseases and providing health updates to the community.
- Maintain nurse’s office in clean, orderly and safe condition with special attention to confidential information, inventory management, and safe disposal procedures.
- Administer medications and manage chronic illness in coordination with individually developed student care plans.
- Serve as consultant to school personnel and parents regarding the medical and health needs of students.
- Schedule medical appointments and communicate findings to the students' parents.
- Transport students to medical appointments as necessary.
- Assist with development and maintenance of school health policies.
- Maintain accurate medical records to assure compliance with state mandates including immunizations, physical examinations, and medical conditions
- Respond to reports of pain or sickness as they arise and assess the student.
- Determine when a student is to be sent home and/or not participate in normal school activities due to illness or pain.
- Work closely with the Director of Counseling and Wellness to monitor students in regard to mood, behavior and affect, and then record the findings. (Particularly when a student is starting a new medication.)
- Establish appropriate screening tests and referrals as necessary.
- Provide medical and health information and programs to students, faculty and staff.
- Communicate any pertinent medical information to the appropriate school staff and the family’s health professional either verbally or in written form.
- Review and retain all student, faculty, and staff accident forms.
- Act as a liaison agent to state, and national health agencies.
Requirements
- Registration and certification as an RN or LPN in the State of Georgia
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- Valid GA drivers’ license
- Two years clinical nursing experience, preferably in a school or pediatric setting
- CPR/AED certified or willing and able to obtain certification
- Ability to successfully prioritize multiple tasks in an atmosphere where time-sensitive deadlines are the norm
- Effective and interpersonal skills including the ability interact with a broad range of constituents including students, families, and colleagues
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion and professional growth and development
