The Keio Academy of New York currently offers 7 varsity teams: Boys Soccer, Girls Volleyball, Co-ed Cross Country, Girls and Boys Basketball and Girls and Boys Lacrosse.
Typical work hours begin around 3:30pm and run for 3-4 hours, Monday through Friday or Saturday, according to game schedules (totaling approximately 15-25 per week).
The Athletic Trainer provides superior rehabilitative care to injured student-athletes. Duties include
- prevention, evaluation, and documentation of injuries.
- education, immediate care, and coordination of care of athletic injuries.
- communicating with coaches, athletes, the health center, and the Director of Athletics & Sports Activities.
The Athletic Trainer is also responsible for explaining and updating safety rules governing daily training, recreational activities, and the use of professional exercise equipment; and implementing and monitoring athletic training programs for rehabilitation and reconditioning. The Athletic Trainer will attend all practices and home games at the Keio Academy of York.
This position is responsible for but not limited to the following:
- Evaluating injuries and developing treatment and exercise plans within the scope of practice; re-evaluating treatments plans, as needed, to ensure maximum student-athlete benefit
- Working in conjunction with the head coach and strength and conditioning coach to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition, and conditioning programs customized to meet individual student-athlete needs
- Implementing individualized therapeutic interventions and monitoring responses therapy and ensure student-athlete safety, reporting progress and changes to the health center
- Educating student-athletes regarding injuries, risk factor modification, and exercise programs
- Conducting educational programs and workshops to promote safety and injury prevention
- Maintaining accurate records of injuries and treatments
- Providing athletic training services for all home games and practices
- Maintaining current Emergency Cardiac Care training (AED)
- Bachelor of Science degree in a related field
- BOC certification
- Experience working with high school aged students
- EMT-B or AEMT certification a plus
- Ability to adhere to the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) Code of Ethics
- Understanding of the New York State Education Department Office of Student Support
Services Guidelines for Concussion Management
- Ability to comply with FERPA and HIPAA policies
- Sports performance experience
- Mobility, strength, visual and auditory acuity adequate for immediate response to student-athlete needs
- Exceptional interpersonal communication skills
- Proven ability to collaborate, effectively communicate, work independently
- Valid driver’s license
