Overview: Spence seeks a Library Assistant / After-School Extended Day Proctor to assist in promoting and maintaining a vibrant, welcoming and inclusive library environment and overseeing our older Middle School students after-school.

Responsibilities:

• Assist at the Middle and Upper School Library desk with circulation needs (checking books and other library collection items in and out, assisting with catalog searches, supporting library users)
• Supervise students in Grades 5 through 12 while they are using the library, supporting them in meeting all expectations of library use
• Assist with physical and digital upkeep of print and digital library collections, including processing, cataloging and inventory
• Support in creating themed book displays
• Maintain the order of library shelves and library space
• Assist students and faculty in finding library resources and reading materials for pleasure and academic purposes
• Troubleshoot minor issues with computers, printers and photocopiers
• Proctor the “Extended Day” (After-School) program for Middle School students daily
• Track and monitor Extended Day attendance
• Coordinate student dismissal from the Extended Day program with Campus Safety and others

Qualifications:

• Organization and attention to detail
• A welcoming and warm spirit
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to lift heavy books and bend (for book shelving)
• Basic familiarity with systems of library organization and classification

Requirements & Benefits:

• Candidate must be able to work weekdays from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm
• Position is an hourly position, salary range is $18-22/hour
• Work is approximately 35 hours weekly, when school is in session
• Position is benefits-eligible, including healthcare coverage
