Columbus School for Girls seeks to hire a full-time Upper School Science teacher for the 2022-2023 academic school year. Major Functions and Responsibilities:
- Teach a variety of Upper School Science courses, including regular and honors freshman-level biology, general chemistry, and/or general physics.
- Independently design and implement lesson plans and assessments.
- Collaborate with the Science department to ensure a cohesive, rich, and diverse science curriculum.
- Provide timely and proactive communication with students, parents, and faculty advisors about student progress.
- Serve as a faculty advisor to a group of 8-12 students, providing them academic, social, and emotional support.
- Participate actively in the life of the school, including leading clubs and/or activities, supervising study halls, and possibly coaching.
- Participate actively in all faculty and staff meetings.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A bachelor’s degree in science or science education, with coursework in biology. An advanced degree in either a science field or science education is preferred.
- At least three years of teaching experience, including lab instruction, is preferred.
- A strong understanding of inquiry-based, student-centered science pedagogy, including the technologies commonly used in a science classroom.
- A continuous commitment to improve teaching proficiency and personal content knowledge.
- The ability to develop and implement effective and engaging curriculum in accordance with best practice in science education.
- An understanding of the value of an all-girls education.
- A love of learning, a sense of curiosity, and a willingness to collaborate.
- Excellent communication skills, a genuine love of teenagers, a sense of humor, and the ability to work well within a diverse, collaborative environment.
