Position Summary and Overview
The Churchill School & Center, a K-12 school for students with language-based learning disabilities, is seeking a school second nurse to join the health team. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the nurse is responsible for the daily management and coordination of school health services, communicating and collaborating with the community and providing preventative, acute and follow up care for students. Serving as a liaison to families and staff on health and wellness issues, the nurse will play an integral role in supporting an optimal physical, mental, emotional and social climate promoting an environment that is positive and student centered. This is a full time 10 month position beginning in August 2022.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Provide health and emergency care to students and staff in a two-building campus.
- Administer medications and treatments as indicated and prescribed by a healthcare provider.
- Administer first aid and provide emergency and preventative care to students and staff.
- Identify and assess students health needs, implementing services and evaluating care plans to achieve optimum student learning and safety.
- Collaborate with school psychologists to assess and address physical and emotional needs of students.
- Develop individual healthcare plans and modifications for students with special health care needs.
- Inform and educate appropriate faculty and staff regarding student allergies and medical conditions.
- Prepare and maintain accurate cumulative health records for each student including NYS mandated immunization and communicable disease control requirements.
- Record, compile and report data as required by the NYS and NYC Department of Health.
- Document and communicate all health services provided for accidents.
- Record and log all student and staff health related visits to the nurses office.
- Review health appraisals and sports clearance forms for student athletes prior to the season.
- Provide relevant medical information to the athletic director and /or coaches.
- Act as a liaison between the school and home regarding student health issues.
- Provide staff and community educational opportunities as needed.
- Participate as a member of The Churchill School Emergency Management and Crisis Team.
- Demonstrate sensitivity, exercise sound judgement and maintain confidentiality when working with students and families.
- Demonstrate outstanding interpersonal, organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
- Maintain a clean, orderly and safe office including a regular inventory of supplies.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have...
- NYS licensed registered professional nurse
- AED and CPR certified (current)
- Minimum three years nursing experience in a school, pediatric or emergency room setting
- Baccalaureate degree in nursing or a related field
- NYS Mandated Reporter training (current)
- Fluent in technology platforms including google suite and Magnus
