Professional Children’s School, founded in 1914, provides a rigorous college-preparatory program with flexibility and adaptability for professional and pre-professional students. We serve Middle and Upper School students who come from multiple states and numerous countries, whose interests include dance, music, acting, modeling, athletics, art, and entrepreneurship. Our students are serious about their academic studies while they pursue their professions outside of school. PCS is a “bring your own device” school and we utilize technology, including the learning management system Canvas, to support our students, particularly when their professions make it impossible to attend class.
Professional Children’s School is a community committed to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging for our students, faculty, professional staff, and all those who visit our school as guests. We adhere to these principles in our hiring and employment practices, and seek to welcome community members who mirror the diversity of our student body, and are committed to affirming this environment for all.
Professional Children’s School seeks to hire a teacher for our English as New Language courses, specifically our leveled ENL Humanities Courses, which combine instruction in English and history, focusing at all times on English language acquisition. Due to enrollment in the program, for now, the person serving in this position will also teach sections of general education English classes. These English appointments will be made based on experience and fit for the program. The individual in this position serves as our primary educator and support for our international students and their families, and the role of International Student Advisor is also a part of this role.
Due to the professional schedules of our students, candidates should understand the need to be flexible, including providing robust educational materials for when students cannot be in class. We are looking for a teacher who is adept at using technology for both learning and teaching purposes, is comfortable collaborating with colleagues, and has an appreciation for the developmental differences between Middle and Upper School students.
It is the policy of Professional Children’s School to ensure equal employment opportunity without discrimination or harassment on the basis of race, color, religion or religious practices, gender, national origin, age, physical or mental disability, creed, citizenship status, marital status, sexual orientation, prior arrest or conviction record, genetic predisposition, group identity, familial status, status as a victim of sexual abuse, stalking, or domestic violence, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local laws.
Qualified candidates should send a cover letter and resume to employment@pcs-nyc.org.
