Position Summary: The 6th grade English teacher strengthens reading comprehension, grammar, and writing proficiencies and provides the skills necessary to appreciate and critique literature. They foster intellectual and social development; inspire trust, confidence, and motivation in St. Hildas and St. Hughs students. They manage the social environment and foster responsible, independent learners. They are responsible for developing the 6th grade English curriculum and lesson plans for implementation within the classroom.
Position Duties:
- Demonstrate vital mastery of teaching English, including literature and composition, reading and writing, and the knowledge of the cognitive, social, and emotional development of the adolescent
- Establish a respectful classroom environment in which each student has the opportunity to think independently and express original ideas
- Facilitate learning for all students, guiding and challenging them by using a variety of instructional methods to provide students with opportunities to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, encourage exploration of ideas, and develop leadership qualities
- Take responsibility for student academic growth using a variety of assessments and ongoing improvement of instructional practices.
- Analyze student learning, development, and growth and apply what is learned to improve instruction.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop curriculum and create plans.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure comprehensive data collection and reporting.
- Demonstrate knowledge through actions of the SHSH mission, vision, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and ethical code of behavior.
- Demonstrate leadership, advocate for the school and students, and exhibit high ethical standards
- Communicate effectively and interact well with parents and other community members.

Essential Functions: Physical Requirements: Must be able to push, pull, climb and lift up to 20 pounds
Education: Bachelor's Degree and at least 4 years of experience. Masters preferred.
Comfortable with technology. Proficient in Google tools. Must be able to effectively communicate verbally, in writing, and via e-mail.
