The French American School of Puget Sound is a bilingual French and English school located on Mercer Island for students in Young Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8. The School’s program satisfies requirements set forth by the Common Core of State Standards and the French National Curriculum from the French Ministry of Education.
Summary:
FASPS is looking for substitute teachers and accepting applications for substitute teachers at all grade levels. Substitute teachers are responsible for implementing the mission and philosophy of the School. With a flexible schedule, substituting is an excellent way to work with great students and their community, and experience independent school teaching.
Qualifications:
Applicants should have prior elementary grade level teaching experience, a desire to be part of an internationally diverse community of teachers and learners and a willingness to adapt to the unique program at FASPS. A Washington State teaching certificate is not required. Successful candidates will be passionate about working with students, have knowledge of current educational practices and strategies and be able to use flexible and innovative pedagogical techniques appropriate to a variety of learning styles. Bilingual skills to include French are a plus. The ability to be employed in the United States and to pass a background check are required.
Duties and responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Ability to work on an on-call basis
- Communicating effectively and in a timely manner with team members, parents, and administration regarding curriculum, classroom activities, and student progress
- Keeping records and reports as required by the administration
- Familiarity with procedures for emergency situations
- Ability to work with an international and culturally diverse student population
- Implementing curriculum appropriate for grade level and appropriate and effective classroom practices and management techniques
- Providing a variety of learning opportunities, methods, and materials
- Acknowledging and planning for the diversity of abilities and learning styles within the classroom
- Encouraging the growth of the ethical character of students
- Imparting enthusiasm for learning to students
- Providing and maintaining a stimulating, safe environment
