We seek a part-time learning specialist for the academic year 2022-23. The learning support person understands the educational needs of diverse learners and can support teachers to differentiate their instructional approaches. The Learning Specialist reports to the Head of School.
Teacher Support
- Work collaboratively with teachers, both in the classroom and in meetings, to understand students’ needs and define and implement strategies/programming to best meet our varied learners.
- Schedule, plan, lead and write up notes for weekly Learning Resource Team meetings.
- Support teachers as they actively track student progress and provide them with resources, as needed.
- Collaborate with the Reading Specialist to identify students who would benefit from additional support.
- Work with teachers to schedule therapists’, tutors’, and/or support service professionals’ visits/meetings during the school day.
- Analyze reports written by outside professionals and disseminate the relevant information to the proper teachers.
- Collaborate with teachers on report card narratives and parent communication.
Student Support
- Work with individual students or groups, both in the classroom and in pull-out sessions, who need additional or 1:1 behavioral or academic support.
- Regularly visit classrooms to understand the classroom cultures and potential challenges that students may face to allow for a richer dialogue about support strategies.
- Collect and analyze data from formalized/standardized assessments, in-class activities and assessments, and teachers’ anecdotal reports.
- Manage educational/psychological reports and student learning profiles provided by outside professionals.
Parent Support
- Actively and continuously collaborate with parents and outside professionals to determine the most effective support for a child, the best classroom practices, any modifications and accommodations that we are providing, and the specific students’ complex strengths and challenges. Provide advice and resources to parents regarding educational assessments, services, and school support.
- Schedule, plan, lead and write up notes from Family Meetings.

Qualifications
- At least 5 of years teaching experience in an early childhood and/or elementary classroom
- Masters degree in Education
- Working knowledge of child development from ages 2.5 to 11 years old
- Experience supporting diverse learners, including a deep understanding of diagnoses that contribute to diverse learning profiles and strategies that support learners in the classroom.
- Creative and collaborative approach to helping teachers support the specific needs of students
- Experience reading and interpreting neuropsychological and/or psychoeducational testing and IEPs.
- Experience using a variety of assessment and data collection tools to build individualized support and learning goals for students.
- Understanding of the best educational practices, particularly in literacy and mathematics instruction.
