Assistant Director of Second Act
Position Summary
The Spence School is seeking an Assistant Director for Second Act, a fun, dynamic and creative
after-school program open to children in Kindergarten through Grade 6. This is a part-time 20 hour per week position from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., beginning each August through the following mid-June, excluding school holidays.
The Assistant Director of Second Act works with the Director of Second Act to uphold the values and goals of the after-school program, lead the program’s community standards for conduct and behavior, enforce safety and health regulations, monitor staff and students and serve as Director of Second Act in the absence of the Director. The Assistant Director of Second Act reports directly to the Director and assists the Director in supervising students and staff, as well as overseeing the day-to-day operations of the after-school program.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct daily briefings with Director
- Oversee daily attendance and dismissal
- Supervise students during program hours
- Arrange and distribute materials
- Set up snacks
- Assist in teaching after-school classes (occasionally substitute teach)
- Escort and supervise students during off-site activities
- Communicate with parents as needed
- Lead all aspects of the program, including managing student programs and staffing in the absence of the Director

- Preferred experience in leadership working with a team
- Requirement: has experience in K to 6 classroom / group setting, particularly with group management of children ages 5 to 12
