Position Purpose:
The middle/upper school faculty is part of the Independent School community and their role is to inspire curiosity, enagement & leadership through by providing high quality learning opportunities, based on strong curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Faculty members will prioritize student-centered, personalized learning within place-based contexts, whenever possible. The middle/upper school team will build strong relationships with colleauges, students and families. Within the collaborative work environment of TSS, faculty members should expect to be contributing team members, while also taking the initiative to work autonomously.
Qualifications:
• Master's Degree Preferred
• At least 5 years experience in a relevent field
• Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external constituents
• Strong speaking and written communication skills
• Ability to manage risk and make leadership decisions in front and backcountry settings.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office products and Google Apps
• Familiarity with place-based education & knowledge of IB program preferred
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
• Combination of indoor and outdoor learning environments
• May be expected to work evenings, weekends or overtime to support special programs/events
• Able to drive 15 passenger vans & minibuses with participants
• Time spent hiking/camping in front- and back-country settings
Responsibilities:
80% Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment
• Teach one section of upper school and one section of middle school Spanish and supervise Ab Initio students utilizing a Pamoja course
• Write curriculum congruent with IB and IS guidelines; collaborate with team to optimize integrated curriculum
• Document curriculum using JS unit planning system
• Assess student work regularly and document learning; provide timely reports at regular reporting periods
• Provide engaging instruction that is appropriately differentiated to each student
• Develop curriculum for innovative programming that maximizes opportunities for students
• Communicate regularly with parents on curriculum and individual student updates, as needed
• Attend parent conferences
15% Team
• Collaborate on integrated projects, extended journeys, community growth
• Cover one learning lab to provide support to students, specifically in Spanish
• Align with team culture and goals
• Offer to cover classes for others, primarily 6-12, if substitutes are not available
• Take part in TSS independent school and team weekly faculty meetings, as appropriate
• Support administrative duties associated with successful implementation of program
5% One TSS Responsibilities
• Develop and implement place based education pedagogies.
• Take part in various greater TSS programs - PBE symposium, engagement sessions, etc.
• Contribute to inclusive work and learning environments through continually developing cultural competency. Cultural Competence is one’s ability to interact effectively across various dimensions of diversity. It lies at the intersection of awareness of others, self-awareness, and applying skills & knowledge to promote inclusion and equity
