A Learning Specialist is needed for the 2022/2023 academic year. This position provides intervention support and instructional coaching to teachers working with students PreK through grade five. The Learning Specialist functions under the supervision of the Brookside Division Head and has direct contact with immediate faculty, staff, children, parents, and volunteers.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Working closely and collaboratively with various constituencies to identify and support the learning needs of all students.
- Providing coaching and modeling for faculty in building best practice instructional strategies.
- Serving as a resource in instructional planning and professional learning.
- Writing and coordinating Section 504 Educational Accommodation Plans.
- Coordinating evaluation referrals to Birmingham Public Schools for Non-Public Service Plans.

Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a related field.
- Experience working with both children and teachers.
- Must be a sensitive and mature individual who is able to relate well to both children and adults.
- Must have the personality and ability to provide leadership and stability for program continuity.
- Demonstrate a clear commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access.
- A willingness to continue professional growth and development with relevant course work and/or professional training.
- Ability to coach, support and provide professional learning to faculty at all levels of experience.
- A commitment to independent school education.

Preferred Qualifications:
- MA degree in Learning Support or Learning Specialist experience.
- Five years teaching experience at the elementary or early childhood level.
- Michigan Elementary or Early Childhood Teaching Certificate.
- Expert knowledge in research based instructional strategies and the ability to implement them effectively.
