Vermont Academy currently has an open classroom/laboratory teaching position in Biology. The position involves teaching Advanced Biology, Cellular Biology, and Kinesiology. Advanced Biology, is a lab course designed to introduce students to content and laboratory procedures comparable to college-level biology. The course covers the units of biochemistry, cells, genetics, DNA technology, evolution/classification, and organ systems. Cellular Biology is a lab course designed to introduce students to basic concepts of scientific study, research, and experimentation, as well as provide a survey of major themes in biology. The course covers the units of chemistry, biochemistry, cells, genetics, evolution, and the human body systems. Kinesiology is a full-year lab course that provides students with an understanding of the diversity of life on Earth and the interactions that occur between those living organisms. Candidates with the ability to cross over and teach in another area of science like Chemistry or Introductory Physical Science will get special consideration.
The successful candidate will be an accomplished, innovative teacher with excellent interpersonal skills, organizational ability, and an enthusiasm for working with adolescents. We seek a teacher to teach four to five academic sections, be a part of the residential life program, lead or coach an afterschool program, and be an academic advisor. Five years of Teaching experience at the secondary level, expertise in teaching, and familiarity with NGSS Science Practices are preferred. A technical facility with Google Workspace, Zoom, and other software commonly used in schools is expected.

- Live in, or serve as an affiliate to one of the Academy’s dormitories
- Monthly weekend duty
- Coach or supervise an activity during two seasons
- Serve as an academic advisor
- Acquire, with the school’s help, a Type II van license
- Other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
