Elementary Teacher
3rd/4th Grade Teacher
Lansdowne Friends School
2022-2023
Lansdowne Friends School seeks a full-time 3rd/4th grade teacher to begin in September of 2022. They will lead one of our two 3rd/4th grade homerooms composed of approximately 14-15 students each. The teaching responsibilities include teaching Language Arts to the mixed-grade homeroom group, teaching math to the 4th graders from both homerooms, and teaching social studies to mixed-grade students from both homerooms. Students will study science with the other homeroom teacher at the same time that the rest of the students are studying social studies.
Close coordination and collaboration with the other 3rd/4th grade teacher is critical, as the two homerooms are both separate groupings but also very closely intertwined. In a very real sense, all 28-30 of the 3rd/4th grade students are under your combined care. The position includes communicating closely with families, coordinating field trips, service projects, and leadership opportunities on and off campus, and collaborating with the other homeroom teachers across the school, and with the “specials” teachers who teach art, music, PE, shop, and Spanish.
Key qualities and qualifications sought include:
- A bachelor’s degree in elementary school education or in a related subject area (master’s preferred)
- Three or more years of experience as a lead teacher for this age group, preferably in a progressive and/or Quaker independent school
- Experience teaching balanced literacy and the writing process
- Experience teaching math (familiarity with the Everyday Math program and/or more hands-on, constructivist approaches to math instruction is preferred)
- Passion for teaching social studies, with a focus on anti-racism and social justice
- Familiarity with the Responsive Classroom approach to building class community, and strong classroom management skills
- Experience in developing and leading service projects that connect to the curriculum and/or that engage students in issues related to the environment and/or social justice
- Ability to form trusting and positive relationships with students
- Collaborative approach to working with children and colleagues
- Interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Organizational and technology skills, such as Google Suites, Zoom, and student information systems
- Integrity, curiosity, flexibility, and strong work ethic
- Interest in being part of a collaborative professional culture and in continuing professional growth
- Affinity with Quaker values and the mission of Lansdowne Friends School
Salary Range: $39,500 to $51,880, depending on experience and educational background. This position comes with a full menu of benefits, including a retirement plan, health insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and support for professional development.
