Key Responsibilities for Assoc. Director of College Counseling
- Serve as academic advisor and college counselor for a caseload of Ninth-Twelfth Grade students helping them choose a challenging but balanced course load
- Meet with students and parents individually and in groups for college counseling
- Oversee academic progress of students in caseload
- Write the counselor letters of recommendations for college applications and other programs for students in caseload
- Coordinate and present informational events and college workshops for students and parents
- Review students’ college applications
- Advocate for students and promote awareness of Woodside Priory School with college admission officers
- Seek professional development by attending conferences and visiting colleges
- Meet with college representatives to learn about schools and programs
- Share college-related information with students and families through email and social media
- Serve on committees as needed
- Plan and chaperone the School’s college tours as needed
- Assist in administration of the SAT, ACT, PSAT, and AP exams
- Assist at Woodside Priory admission events
Other Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree and prior experience in college counseling and college admission preferred; Master’s Degree a plus
- Desire to work as a college counselor in a high school setting
- Outstanding interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills; and strong decision-making aptitude
- Skills in counseling, writing, public speaking, and empathic listening
- Organizational and time management skills that allow for successful completion of numerous tasks
- Knowledge of colleges and admission process
- Orientation to detail and confidentiality
- Positive and optimistic attitude
- Love of people—especially teenagers
- Embrace a collaborative team approach
- Competency with word processing, spreadsheet, data base, internet and computer functions
- Ability to communicate effectively with all constituents in a school environment in person, via telephone and virtual conferencing
