The Village School of North Bennington (VSNB) is a pre-K through grade six independent school “town academy” located in North Bennington, Vermont, proudly serving approximately 150 students, nearly all from the surrounding school district, which includes North Bennington and Shaftsbury, District 1. It is our philosophy that children who feel safe, secure, and nurtured will be successful learners. Toward this goal, rather than simply providing an atmosphere of education, we strive to create an environment for education, placing children “at the heart of all we do.” We are currently seeking a skilled and energetic First Grade Teacher for the 2022-2023 school year. The ideal candidate will excel in maintaining a classroom of high standards for respect and student achievement, with a strong focus on both modeling and cultivating a growth mindset. The ability to work collaboratively with other faculty, support staff, administration, and interventionists to provide engaging and differentiated learning opportunities for all students is essential.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY DUTIES:
- Develops and implements grade-appropriate lesson plans, activities, and assessments to meet the academic, developmental, and social needs of students
- Supports the social-emotional needs of children, guided by the use of trauma-informed practices
- Monitors and guides classroom behavior in accordance with the VSNB Constitution: “Be Safe; Be Kind; Be Respectful; and Have Fun”
- Evaluates and monitors student's performance and progress
- Participates in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for specific students, in conjunction with the Special Educator and Support Staff
- Incorporates place-based education into the curriculum whenever possible
- Works collaboratively with interventionists and the Special Educator to provide engaging and differentiated learning opportunities for all students
- Facilitates curriculum and programming to assist students in social, emotional, and behavioral growth
- Serves on student Educational Support Teams (ESTs) with fellow staff members that may include: the Special Educator, School Counselor, Nurse, Head of School, and/or other Support Staff
- Develops and maintains a relationship with each child that ensures the child knows they are cared for and valued
- Collaborates with colleagues and administrators to ensure that each child’s experience at the school reflects a coordinated plan to maximize the opportunities for personal and educational growth
- Develops and maintains positive partnerships with families as an important aspect of ensuring personal and educational growth
- Commits to ongoing professional development and growth, continually learning and developing enhanced pedagogical and counseling skills
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field
- Master’s degree in Education, preferred but not required
- Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience, strongly preferred
- Experience with Fundations or some other early reading program, strongly preferred
- Must be able to pass a series of state-required background checks, including fingerprinting
- Proof of Covid-19 vaccination, required
