Lake Forest Academy seeks an Assistant Dean of College Counseling to assist in the overall operations of the College Counseling Office starting in August 2022. A significant element of our school mission is to prepare students for college and a global work environment. We proudly educate a globally and ethnically diverse student body that consists of 25% international students and 36% domestic students of color, representing 15 states and 40 countries. With that in mind, the college counseling process at Lake Forest Academy is a comprehensive endeavor that spans from freshman to senior year. The mission of college counseling at Lake Forest Academy is to provide resources for students and families in the college search process to help students make college decisions based on the appropriate fit.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assists juniors and seniors in the overall management of the college application process by guiding the search process, meeting with students and parents, composing letters of recommendation, and reviewing application materials
- Builds solid relationships with colleges and universities by meeting with college admission representatives and visiting college campuses
- Utilizes Scoir as a database to track applications and send materials
- Directs and leads College Counseling programs
- Coaching two seasons of co-curricular athletics, or the equivalent
- If residential faculty, fulfilling weeknight (once a week) and weekend (7) residential duties
- Serving as an Advisor to a small group of students
- Serving on committees and task forces, as needed
- Participates in professional development opportunities, such as counselor visit programs and annual conferences in the field
- Engages in the life of the school by being a presence at plays, concerts, and athletic events
- Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements:
- Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree
- At least 2 years experience in selective college admissions preferred and/or independent school college advising
- Solid understanding of information technology
- Excellent communication skills in writing, listening and public speaking
- Ability to work collaboratively with the college counseling team, faculty and administration
- Flexibility and sense of humor with the daily life of a boarding school
- Supports and acts in accordance with LFA’s mission and values
- Upholds LFA’s standards of professional courtesy, punctuality, discretion and confidentiality
