Position Summary
Essential Duties
- Commit to living out the values of the Sacred Heart education as articulated in the Network of Sacred Heart Schools Goals and Criteria, and integrate them into the fabric of personal and school life.
- Work in conjunction with the P8 Principal, P8 Assistant Principal for Student Life, Director of Early Childhood Education, SHP Director of Campus Ministry, and the Chief Mission, Culture, and Strategy Officer to develop and implement a coherent prayer and worship program for grades preschool - 12.
- Assist the Lower School teachers with weekly chapel services for the elementary students.
- Collaborate with the Office of Mission, Culture, & Strategy to prepare two all-school liturgies a year (Mass of the Holy Spirit & Feast of Madeleine Sophie Barat) and any other special feasts as directed by the Chief of MCS.
- Provide pastoral care and a loving, safe, secure, engaging program and environment for students; including preparing students to lead prayer at public assemblies.
- Participate in formation programs sponsored by the Network of Sacred Heart Schools.
- Collaborate with colleagues who are responsible for the planning and implementation of sacramental programs (Reconciliation, First Eucharist, and Confirmation).
- Collaborate with Choral/Instrumental music teachers to prepare students for participation in school liturgies.
- Prepare a “SHS songbook” for P8 teachers to use as a guide for preparing students to participate actively in school liturgies.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- At least three years' campus ministry, music ministry, or related experience in a Catholic school.
- Practicing Catholic who appreciates and understands the charism of the Society of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
- MA in Theology/Religious Studies, or related field.
- Ability to play the piano or guitar and lead students in song and teach students Mass parts.
- Hold a valid California Driver's License and be able to clear the approval process of SHS underwriters for transporting students and willingness to drive students and adults, sometimes for long distances, for retreats.
- A clear understanding of and appreciation for the Goals and Criteria of a Sacred Heart education.
- Flexibility and a high tolerance for change and ambiguity.
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with all levels of staff and faculty, students and families.
- Ability to be a self-starter and work independently.
- Team player with a growth mindset orientation.
- Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude in any situation.
- Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking in English.
- Ability to work well with elementary and middle school students and families, and with adult colleagues
- Commitment to equity and inclusion.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Works in a highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
- Must comply with all state vaccination requirements and show proof of vaccination including but not limited to COVID-19 or proof of eligibility for exemption.
- Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
- Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled office environment. Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold. May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
- Able to travel safely and comfortably across a 64 acre campus.
