Position Summary and Overview
The Churchill School and Center is seeking a High School Social Studies Assistant Teacher.
An Assistant Teacher works closely with the Head Teacher to achieve the instructional/educational goals of the classroom. The Assistant consults with and supports the Head Teacher on daily lesson planning, the monitoring, and assessment of student progress and the management/supervision of students in class, halls, and throughout the building.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Embrace and model Churchill’s Mission Statement and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Support Head Teacher by
- planning curriculum, lessons, and assignments
- grading student work and participation
- taking attendance each period
- maintaining website with course documents and assignments
- tracking students' work and progress and maintaining records
- Support Students by
- developing critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and tools to become independent, college-bound learners
- providing extra-help
- breaking-down / scaffolding assignment
The ideal candidate has…
- a BA in education, history or social studies (liberal arts majors welcome)
- knowledge/interest in Global Studies, US History, Civics and Economics (or personal finance)
- classroom experience or experience building positive, appropriate relationships with teens
- knowledge/experience working with students with learning disabilities
- experience with smartboards, GoogleDrive, and technology in the classroom
- interest in becoming a head teacher and/or pursuing career in (special) education
- patience and organization
