The Director of Campus Safety plans, develops, organizes, directs, supervises, and evaluates a comprehensive Campus Safety program for Oaks Christian School. The Director shall conduct short and long-range planning to ensure that the department maintains its overall goals and objectives of providing a safe and secure environment, preparing adequately for emergencies & disasters, and delivering excellent services to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Essential Functions:
The Director’s overall duties may include but are not limited to the following:
- Act as the director of security/campus safety for the entire OCS campus.
- Develop faculty, staff, and student safety and training procedures/protocols for all security related matters (i.e., Active Shooter, Fire, Earthquake, etc.)
- Formulate the department’s vision, goals, and strategic plan.
- Plan, implement, oversee, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate the specific functions and services for the campus.
- Establish performance and accountability standards for campus supervisors (MS and HS) and contracted security guards (AUS and Pacific Platinum.)
- Oversee the creation and revision of operations and training manual and policies and procedures.
- Ensure that all safety and security policies and procedures are appropriately interpreted and implemented by campus safety team.
- Oversee the initial and ongoing training of the security team.
- Attend applicable internal and external training and professional development sessions that may be associated with the duties of the Director of Campus Safety
- Assess and monitor crime trends and security matters in the city of Westlake Village and on campus; work with other departments to proactively develop strategies to address any potential issues
- Provide appropriate direction and coordination of criminal investigations on campus and involve other law enforcement agencies as applicable
- Prepare and/or monitor reports and data regarding incidents on campus and the department’s activities
- Develop and implement general safety and security policies and procedures in accordance with all local, state, and federal laws and all applicable rules and regulations established by OCS.
- Establish and maintain a working relationship with the Lost Hills Sheriff’s Department and other local public safety agencies that share responsibility for emergency response and safety of persons
- Work closely and collaboratively with local businesses (e.g., Calvary Community Church and the City of Westlake Village).
- Work with the facilities booking department to plan safety and security coverage during special events
- Serve as an active member of the school’s Crisis Management Team.
- Serve as an active member of the Facilities Committee.
- Ensure that personnel are in a constant state of readiness to respond to major emergencies that affect the campus.
- Oversee the management and enforcement of parking and traffic regulations on campus
- Conduct periodic assessment of the department’s services to the OCS community and ensure continuous improvement to meet or exceed internal and external expectations.
- Consistently review equipment maintenance contracts and make recommendations to the COO and Administration.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Must be willing to abide by the OCS employee handbook.
- Must be willing to sign OCS statement of faith.

Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Law enforcement experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in related field from an accredited college or institution (preferred).
- Five years of experience in security in an educational setting.
- At least five years of management and administrative responsibility at the leadership level, in a department of similar size or larger, preferably at an institution of higher education.
- Previous experience in contract management.
- Demonstrated experience with physical security systems and principles.
- Must have strong and exemplary leadership skills.
- Knowledge of operations, services, and activities of a comprehensive public safety program including law enforcement, crime prevention, disaster preparedness, and other associated programs, services, and operations.
- Knowledge of the FEMA Incident Command System framework and principles.
- Previous experience in utilizing an Emergency Mass Notification System such as BrightArrow and Blackbaud.
- Knowledge of modern law enforcement and criminal procedures.
- Expert ability to build partnerships with local, state, and federal agencies.
- Demonstrate a collaborative, open, participatory, team-oriented management style that includes the ability to clearly articulate ideas, verbally and in writing.
- Ability to think critically and proactively and take initiatives regarding security issues at Fuller.
- Excellent analytical skills and ability to operate effectively during major emergencies and stressful situations.
- Must have excellent human relations skills with the ability to interact positively with a diverse institution’s population, and the ability to develop and implement problem-solving techniques within the institution.
- Ability or desire to work in a distinctly Christian environment.
- Must undergo and pass institution’s selection process.
- Must submit to and pass a thorough personal and background investigation
- Must have a valid California driver license and the ability to operate all equipment in the campus safety vehicle.
- Must successfully complete all applicable professional certification courses, including, but not limited to basic First aid/CPR, and AED certification.
