Job Summary:
Francis W. Parker School is a renowned JK-12th grade independent day school. Founded in 1901 on the tenets of progressive education, the school currently enrolls 945 students and employs 200 dedicated faculty and staff members who, in addition to assistant teachers, substitute teachers and coaches, work together to ensure that the School lives up to its Mission to “educate students to think and act with empathy, courage and clarity as responsible citizens and leaders in a diverse, democratic society and global community.”
We are seeking a dynamic, innovative and experienced educator in the field of History and Social Studies to join our faculty, covering for a leave of absence. Responsibilities include teaching four sections, primarily world history based, leading an Upper School advisory, participating in civic engagement opportunities with students and colleagues, chaperoning student trips and activities.
The work schedule for the Substitute Upper School History Teacher is as follows:

Preferred Qualifications:
- M.A. or M.A.T. in Secondary Social Studies, Ph.D. in History or Education or B.A. major/minor in a Social Studies field.
- Upper school classroom experience
- Some expertise in World History and Global Studies
- Training in and experience teaching issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion
- Excellent communication skills, sound judgment and emotional maturity
- Affinity and enthusiasm for working with adolescents
- Commitment to ongoing professional and intellectual development
- Experience with integrating technology into the classroom
- Openness to and experience in creating innovative and experimental curriculum
Strongly Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated commitment to civic engagement
- Personal and/or professional experience and extensive knowledge of contemporary global issues, gained through living in, working in, or studying countries and cultures outside of the United States
- Ability and interest to run an advisory, lead extra-curricular student activities, participate in community initiatives or coach
- Experience working at a progressive school or in a progressive environment
