The Dalton School, a K-12 independent, coeducational school located in Manhattan, is consistently recognized as one of the top independent day schools in the nation. It has a total enrollment of about 1,300 students and a faculty and staff of approximately 350.
We are seeking a full-time production manager to be responsible for performances and events that take place in our theater/auditorium. This person will be responsible for sound, lighting, and video needs for in-school events along with supporting outside designers for larger productions and reports to the Assistant Director of the High School for Operations.
Responsibilities:
In-House Productions
- Provide production management services for In-house productions
- Recommend budgetary allocation, including purchases and staffing
- Coordinates year-long production schedules including production meetings, load-in, tech, and performances
- Oversees load-in and tech rehearsals through freeze of 10 productions annually
- In-House productions generally include a Fall High School play, Fall Middle School One-Acts, Winter Music Concert, Winter Middle School Musical, Winter Middle School Flash Mob, Spring High School Musical, Spring Dance Theater Workshop performance, Spring Music Concerts, Spring Middle School Greekfest, and Spring High School Theater Senior Projects.
Assembly program
- Coordinate and provide support for weekly middle and high school assemblies
- Run lights, sound, and video with student support.
- Coordinate any equipment rental needs
- Support rehearsal and strike as needed.
Special Events
- Provide support for evening and weekend events throughout the year
- Approximately once a week, with heavier frequency in the spring.
- Generally a basic stage layout with a few microphones and a general lighting wash
- These include admissions, advancement, alumni, parents association, and student conferences.
Summer Rentals
- Provide support for summer programming as needed.
Theater Maintenance
- Maintain the light, sound, and video systems in the 89th Street theater.
- Hire crews when necessary for maintenance and cleaning
- General troubleshooting of house equipment
- Coordinates repairs with building services
- Collaborate on recommendations for equipment updates
- Coordinate load-in and strike for larger shows, including restore to house base system.
Qualifications:
- Solid facility with theatrical lighting, sound and video and familiarity with maintaining associated equipment.
- ETC lighting console, a mix of LED and conventional lighting fixtures, including some moving lights and DMX node infrastructure.
- Digital Projector and minimal video switching and digital slides
- Sound mixing and audio, currently presonus board with shure wireless handheld, lav mics, and qlab.
- A willingness to collaborate with people with a wide range of technical familiarity
- Ability to work flexible hours including some weekends is essential
- Ready to collaborate with in-house Theater Director, in-house designer, and a group of regular part-time designers and technicians
- Support 18 passionate and demanding faculty in the dance, theater, and music departments.
- Work with administrators, facilities, and the business office to ensure smooth operations in the theater.
- Eager to work with middle school and high school students interested in technical theater.
