Position Summary
The Controller/Director of Finance is responsible for maintaining the integrity of PRS’s accounting records, financial reporting, and analysis. This includes managing the daily needs of running the Business Office, review and oversight on all accounting functions, preparing financial reporting for the CFO/COO’s review, compiling and managing the annual audit and tax reporting processes, participating in board committee meetings, managing contracts and coordinating legal review, coordinating and managing relationships with outside vendors including corporate insurance, banking, audit, tax, etc. The CFO/COO heavily relies on this role to be detail-oriented, independently driven, forward-thinking, proactive with suggestions around opportunities for improvement, adaptable, and a team player.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to, the following)
Finance
- Preparation of materials, potentially presenting and maintaining minutes for the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees
- Financial Reporting and analysis as needed
- Budget management and forecasting for both operating results and capital expenses
- Maintaining our long-range planning model (“5-year plan”) and providing analysis to support the assumptions we will use to forecast the future
- Ad hoc financial analysis for initiatives and proactive suggestions on opportunities for improvement
Accounting
- Oversight of all day-to-day accounting functions and needs
- Manage and general oversight of the monthly close process including being the final review before it’s sent to the CFO/COO.
- Cash management, reporting and monthly forecasting
- Reviewing bi-weekly payroll and journal entries including compensation and vacation accruals
- Overall process management for the annual audit including schedule preparation, review, and responsibility for a successful process
- Overall process management and review for tax preparation with our tax accounting firm
- Responsible for Internal Controls including management, maintenance, and recommendations for improvements
- Managing external vendor relationships (as appropriate in the Accounting/Finance areas)
- Various other filings through the year include Use Tax to keep the School current
Other Business Office Related Items
- Corporate Insurance process including broker correspondence, annual renewals, and manage claim submissions
- Managing and coordinating legal review for various contracts on major initiatives or governance requirements
- Provide timely and cooperative internal customer service to all employees
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications (minimum requirements)
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or equivalent; CPA preferred but not required
- Minimum of 7 years of accounting experience
- Experience in a managerial role is preferred
- Non-profit experience preferred but not required
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Analytical and proven ability to think strategically
- Detail oriented
- Professionalism and ability to communicate well at any level
- Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
- Adaptable and open to change
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and bring projects to completion
- Savvy with technology and ability to learn new programs
- Skilled in the typical Microsoft office suite of products
