The Calhoun School, a leading progressive, independent, co-educational day school in Manhattan, seeks a full time Lower School-Elementary Teacher (Leave Replacement) to begin August 2022.
The successful candidate will have a passion for working with elementary-aged students in an innovative, supportive environment. Math teachers are responsible for the development, implementation, and progression of the Calhoun curriculum, and the success of its students. Math department faculty are highly collaborative, and they use the latest research and inquiry-based approaches to challenge their students. We inspire students to problem-solve and strive to provide a positive learning environment in which all students can excel.
Essential Job Functions:

Teaching fourth and fifth grade math, developing lesson plans, and collaborating with the math department in order to support the needs of the students.

Creating a positive learning environment for students and inspiring students to hold themselves to a high standard of academics and character

Maintaining anecdotal and assessment records to inform thoughtful, comprehensive narrative reports while assessing students in a meaningful and progressive manner.

Providing differentiated whole group and small group instruction for a diverse group of learners in a progressive setting, based on the learning modalities of students.

Cultivating a love of math through interactive, joyful learning.

Serving as a cluster teacher to a small group of students as the primary point of contact for families, and creating the “cluster community”; supporting the Social Emotional development of the cluster.

Leading an elective class each quarter for a small group of third through fifth grade students.
Collaboration/Communication:
-
Collaborating with colleagues both intra- and cross-departmentally to share best practices and ensure student progress.

Attend faculty meetings and conferences as needed.

Engaging in STEAM-related collaborative work with 4th and 5th grade science teacher.

Maintain effective, consistent, and professional communication with students, parents, teachers, and administrators through a variety of forms, including meetings, conferences, and formal academic reports.

Communicating regularly about any students of concern with divisional Student Support Team.

Engaging in the wider life of the Lower School - Elementary division - for example, serving as a faculty advisor to a student club or chaperoning trips.

Strong commitment to, belief in, and alignment with Calhoun’s mission and values.

Perform teaching duties and all other duties as assigned by the division director.
Skills:
- Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of math-related disciplines.
