We are searching for and invite applications for a Learning Specialist for 7th to 9th grade.
The Learning Specialist’s primary goal is to support 7th through 9th grade students by providing intervention and remediation for students as well as working with teachers, the Division Directors, and the Student-Centered Support Team in developing and implementing support and enrichment strategies and programs as needed. The Learning Specialist will:
- Provide targeted support in the areas of time management, organization, and effective learning strategies applied to academic content in individual settings.
- Develop content-area Help Centers supported by both faculty and peer tutors.
- Evaluate the individual academic needs of each student referred to the Student-Centered Support Team to determine the most appropriate interventions.
- Proactively monitor progress of students.
- Arrange classroom visits to observe teachers and students to inform how best to support them.
- Facilitate Student Support Meetings for specific students on caseload and other students at risk.
- Plan and implement parent education around instructional programs and student support.
- Review educational evaluations and recommend appropriate action plans.
- Create and monitor student accommodations and intervention plans.
- Teach a one trimester study skills elective.
- Work with the Seminar 7th and 8th grade teachers to develop and deliver lessons focused on the ”Me as a Learner” portion of the course.
- Oversee standardized testing (ERBs and Star Testing).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- A Master’s degree in Special Education and/or related academic discipline.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills for working effectively with a diverse community of staff, parents, and campus-wide colleagues.
- Demonstrable classroom experience teaching students of varying abilities.
- Knowledge of using data from clinical neuropsychological assessments to inform individual student learning plans.
- Experience with College Board and ACT accommodations application processes.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability and desire to work collaboratively.
