Description
Baker Demonstration School, an independent progressive PK-8 school on Chicago’s North Shore, is seeking a full-time Preschool Assistant Teacher for the 2022-23 school year. Ideal candidates for this role are organized, creative, effective communicators with experience working with young children (three-years old to five-years old). The Assistant Teacher will work closely with our preschool lead teachers and also share responsibilities for recess and lunch, remain with students during their specials classes and help students transition to the after-care program. We value candidates who appreciate and understand Progressive education, enjoy teaching, and are knowledgeable about experiential learning. We place a high value on community and seek candidates who have excellent interpersonal skills who will work well with students, colleagues, parents and lead teachers.

Founded in 1918, Baker Demonstration School is an independent day school committed to providing an exemplary Preschool, Elementary and Middle School progressive education to our 200 students. Our students come from Chicago, Evanston, Wilmette and other North Shore communities. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position beginning mid-August 2022 through mid-June 2022-23. Salary is commensurate with experience and education. Candidates must successfully complete a background check. Requirements
- B.A. in Early Childhood Education
- At least 2-4 years experience working with young children (preschoolers)
- Understanding of play-based, Progressive education philosophy and methodology
- Willingness to contribute positively to an educational environment that supports a lifelong love of learning, self-esteem, and respect for the community and the world
- Commitment to engaging in ongoing work and professional development with faculty and staff
