Rye Country Day School is seeking a full-time Library Assistant beginning in August 2022. Rye Country Day School is a coeducational, Prek-12, college preparatory school located in Westchester County, New York dedicated to providing students with an excellent education using both traditional and innovative approaches. The Library Assistant reports to the Library Director. Specific responsibilities of the position include:
- Checking out books and shelving library materials
- Preparing and sending overdue notices
- Assisting students and staff in locating library resources
- Processing and cataloging new materials and prepare them for shelving
- Assisting with keeping the online catalog current and updating cataloging information in automated catalog
- Assisting with inventory and weeding the collection
- Repairing damaged library materials
- Assisting with bulletin boards, displays, webpage, library programming, and special projects
- Troubleshooting technical issues with computers and other digital equipment
- Managing library in the afternoon until the building closes and assisting the Upper School with after school proctoring in the library
- Covering classes for librarians when needed
Desired qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a research-related field; Library or Information Sciences a plus
- Facility with technology, including circulation management systems, Apple and PC systems, and integrated search tools; experience working in a library setting a plus
- Strong interpersonal skills; a positive attitude, energy, and an inspiring and entrepreneurial style
- Excitement for working and collaborating with students and faculty
- Excellent oral, written, and organizational skills; strong attention to detail; excellent problem-solving skills
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
- A well-developed sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community members; a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Desire and ability to support the extra-curricular life of the school
