Saint Mark's Episcopal School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida seeks a proven, dedicated, and enthusiastic coach to lead its sailing and watersports program. The Head Sailing and Waterfront Manager/ Program Assistant will oversee coaching staff, recruit youth sailors, coordinate waterfront and practice schedules, and execute training programs.
This role will also assist with AfterSchool and Summer Programming, year round. The Head Sailing Coach must lead the coaching staff and the team by example. In addition, the head coach must teach and instill the highest levels of sportsmanship in all members of the program. Saint Mark’s is a PK1-8th grade school, and the head coach will support our sailors in the high school search as it pertains to sailing. The Head Sailing and Waterfront Manager will also have year-round responsibilities.
The Successful Candidate Will:
- Serve as the Manager of Sailing and Watersports reporting directly to the Director of AfterSchool and Summer Programs
- Lead the coaching staff
- Oversee the safety and well-being of program participants
- Design and execute practices
- Recruit and market to new and returning sailors
- Meet with prospective students and their families
- Assist students and families during the High School Search Process as it has to pertain to sailing programs
- Meet with student-athletes throughout the academic year
- Represent Saint Mark's Episcopal School in the community
- Work closely, collaboratively, and cooperatively with the Director of AfterSchool and Summer Programs
- Oversee the maintenance and replacement plan for the fleet
- Coordinate with maintenance for the upkeep of the fleet and support boats
- Remain current and compliant with appropriate trainings and certifications as directed by the school
- Invest in the community and participate in the lives of our students beyond the waterfront
- Convey patience, empathy, enthusiasm, and optimism in their work with colleagues, adolescents, and their families.
- Possess excellent interpersonal, communication (writing, listening, speaking), and organizational skills, and exhibit the ability to interact and work effectively with students, parents, and other employees.
- Pursue an understanding of current learning and coaching pedagogies and adolescent development
- Model flexibility in both implementing best learning practices and pursuing success for each student
- Possess a high degree of cultural competency and demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and perspectives
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Minimum: Experience leading a competitive high school/collegiate/club/summer sailing program
- Preferred: Experience in secondary or post-secondary institution
- Preferred: Lifeguard Certification or ability to obtain certification
- Preferred: CPR and First Aid Certification or ability to obtain certification

- Be able to pass a background check
- Have proof of eligibility to work in the United States
