Brooklyn Friends School (BFS), a thriving Preschool-12 grade school located in vibrant Downtown Brooklyn, seeks a part time, as needed, Operations Substitute within a dynamic community of colleagues (BFS uses the all-inclusive term, colleagues, to refer to all rather than one that delineates faculty/staff). THE POSITION
We are seeking an Operations Substitute to join our team on an as needed basis reporting to the Facilities Leadership team or interim Director of Technology, depending on the needs for shift. This colleague would support the needs of both the facilities and technology team, based on the day. Incoming colleagues would be trained and mentored in all of the below primary responsibilities. Brooklyn Friends is seeking part time coverage, especially on Professional Development days, school breaks, evenings, weekends and on a last minute basis for sick coverage.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
Technology:
- Set up, monitor, and troubleshoot, as needed, technology, including but not limited to, projector, audio, USB camera, screens, microphones, requirements for meetings, events, or as needed
- Transfer gear, organize, label, count, or re-home technology equipment
- Assist in inventory management and delivery acceptance
- Basic troubleshooting and maintenance of printers, copiers, and all tech equipment
Maintenance and Handy Person:
- Clean and maintain assigned areas, including but not limited to, classrooms, offices, stairwells, hallways, ceilings, floors, restrooms, and electrical fixtures
- Operate elevator to transport members of the community as well as materials, packages, and equipment as needed, in the Pearl Street building
- Set up for events
- Distribute mail and packages
- Assist the security team, as needed
- Empty waste baskets and other recyclable materials. Take garbage to required locations
- Sweep and mop the floors daily
- Vacuum carpeted areas
- Dust office furniture and items
- Clean all entry doors, spraying with a cleaning solution
- Sanitize drinking fountains
- Sanitize desks and surfaces to prevent any COVID exposure
- Polish elevator doors and structures
Qualifications and Characteristics Sought:
- All applicants must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19, including booster when you are eligible
- Flexible schedule, with the availability of nights, weekends, and days surrounding holidays
- Strong communication skills
- A respect for the life of the child
- Ability to engage with a diverse community
- Microsoft Excel and Word basic knowledge
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand, bend over, twist and reach to access file cabinets, bookshelves and navigate office and workstation spaces
- Must be able to work in tight and enclosed spaces, including small closets, crawl spaces, roof panels, etc.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to work outdoors or in spaces without heat or air conditioning, and which are subject to variable temperatures and humidity
- Must be able to work in areas occasionally exposed to foul odors and noxious fumes
Union Status: Non-Union
Salary Range: $15.00 - $17.00/hour
This salary range represents the expected hourly salary range for this position. Ultimately, in determining your pay, we'll consider your education level, experience, and other job-related factors.
