The Opportunity – The Buckley Executive Director, Chair for Teaching and Learning
For educational leaders inspired by the promise and complexity of teaching and learning, the Executive Director position offers a rare opportunity to truly focus on enhancing learning by strengthening teaching. Unfettered by other administrative responsibilities and bolstered by a generous budget and the dedicated CTL team of five (including the Director), the Executive Director will drive the strategic vision of the CTL and deliver optimal programming. The Director will balance unyielding curiosity about transformational teaching practices and current research on learning with deep empathy and respect for the lived experience of teachers. The Director will explore and hold an industry-wide perspective and bring the best research and practices to the EA professional community in a manner that complements the cadences of classroom teaching. Listening to and learning with teachers, the Director will guide the CTL in providing a rich menu of learning opportunities. This leadership position purposefully sits adjacent to the leadership team in order to sustain its intentional focus on teaching and learning.
Cocreate: In consultation with teachers, the Director will facilitate learning that meets both the immediate and long-terms needs of the faculty. Building on some of the CTL’s signature programs – Lunch and Learns, Springboards, Faculty Learning Communities, Book Talks, and Individual Consultations - the Director will also explore and support cross-divisional and interdisciplinary learning to strengthen engaging and effective instruction.
Convene: The Director and the team will bring the best minds in education to EA. Whether inviting researchers from top universities across the country or gathering local practitioners from area schools, the Director will facilitate a cross-pollination of ideas and practices. The Director will solidify EA’s reputation as an innovative institution, invested in the growth of its teachers and students, locally, regionally, and nationally.
Curate: The Director will manage the CTL in researching and making available meaningful resources ranging from current research to conferences to salient reading.
Connect: Driven by a sense of curiosity and service, the Director will build strong relationships within and beyond EA. Internally, CTL should form strong relationships and be seen as a source of expertise and inspiration for teachers in all divisions.
Celebrate: Inspired teaching and transformational learning happens each day at EA. The Director will explore and elevate the skills, wisdom, knowledge that makes these classroom moments possible by identifying and showcasing the accomplishments of the faculty.
Collaborate: The Director will work closely with the Academic Dean to support new faculty orientation, curricular goals, departmental initiatives, and professional development programming. Partnering with the Executive Director of the Office of DEI, the CTL Director will support work toward inclusive classrooms and a sense of belonging.
Communicate: The ED will measure and report the impact of CTL programs and services to the leadership team, the Board of Trustees, and key donors.
