Greenwich Country Day School seeks a Staff Accountant to start immediately. This position will report to the CFO/COO and support general ledger and account management, monthly budget reporting, and accounting and budget reporting functions related to capital expenditures. The ideal candidate will be a team player with prior experience in a similar role. This is a full-time, 12-month/year position.
Responsibilities Include
- Ledger and account management including mastery of existing organizational account coding and working with the controller to create and organize new accounts
- Provide capital project accounting by conducting project budget analysis and appropriately executing accounts payable functions related to capital expenditures; including bookkeeping and actual vs. budget analysis for ongoing construction projects
- Closeout of capital expenditures to asset accounts
- Prepare quarterly and annual calculations while maintaining schedules of depreciation
- Work with CFO/COO to update the annual budget
- Provide monthly budget reports to division and department heads
- Provide accounting and financial support for selected special school events including auctions, book sales, and other fundraising initiatives
- Create journal entries for intra-account allocations related to events and the work of certain departments.
- Reconcile bank accounts and create associated entries on a monthly basis.
- Deposit miscellaneous cash receipts and record them in the general ledger
- Oversee monthly reconciliation of purchase card accounts and act as an effective point of contact for the card-issuing financial institution
- Provide accounting support through backup and redundancy of accounts payable and receivable functions
- Assist with office organization and filing
- Other duties as may be assigned by the CFO/COO
Required Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting or study in a related field or program
- Demonstrated knowledge of capital budgeting, account reconciliation, general ledger accounting, depreciation, budget analysis, and accounts payable.
- Cultural competency skills to successfully collaborate across differences and the desire to be an engaged member of an inclusive educational community
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in an accounting role
- Advanced degree in accounting and/or professional certification in accounting
- Prior professional business experience in an educational setting
