Are you passionate about teaching and learning and seeking to make a difference for independent schools in New York State? If so, the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) is looking for you. NYSAIS is the nation’s second-largest state independent school association with 203 members. Founded in 1947, NYSAIS has a long history of supporting the independent school community through accreditation, professional learning, and advocacy. We are looking for our next Associate Director for Professional Learning to develop and implement NYSAIS professional learning programs and support the professional learning needs in our member schools.
Successful candidates will have a deep and broad understanding of independent school education including the dynamics of adult learning. The position involves working both independently and collaboratively with other members of the staff and volunteer committees. The skills and temperament to excel in a remote workplace are a must. - B.A. or B.S. degree; Advanced degree preferred
- Experience in and/or understanding of independent schools
- Demonstrated working knowledge of current research, practice, and theory related to adult learning
- Demonstrated commitment to understanding the principles of equity practice.
- Strong written and oral communication skills including ease and facility with individual and group meetings conducted “in person,” through video conferencing, and on the telephone
- Self-starter and independent worker with strong and creative problem-solving skills as well as a keen attention to detail
- Strong interest and skills in computer technology, database, website management, word processing, spreadsheets, video conferencing, innovative adult learning models, and other computer programs as needed
- Extensive knowledge of, and facility with, organization, planning, records management and general administration
- Strong interpersonal skills and agility in moving between tasks while meeting deadlines
- Ability to, and enjoyment of, simultaneously wearing many hats; from being a visionary to being one’s own secretary in implementing the vision
- Enjoyment and ability to relate to a wide variety of people, individually and in groups
- Approachable and empathetic with a sense of humor
