The Haverford School is seeking an experienced science teacher who is comfortable teaching at the introductory or advanced High School level in chemistry and/or physics. The candidate will begin on or about January 16, 2022 and end on or about March 10, 2022. They will be an enthusiastic individual who has demonstrated a passion for science learning and for teaching that builds interest in, excitement for, and mastery of the subject.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Teach four sections of science courses in a rotating schedule (2-4 classes per day). Course load will be
determined by candidate’s strengths and will likely include:
o Introductory or Advanced Chemistry
o Introductory Physics
• Perform the traditional duties of a teacher at The Haverford School:
o Collaborate effectively and frequently with colleagues within and outside of the science department.
o Prepare course materials such as homework assignments and handouts.
o Teach within and help develop project-based curriculum.
o Prepare and supervise safe laboratory experiences for students.
o Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
o Design, evaluate, and grade students' class work and assessments.
o Plan and revise course content, course materials, and methods of instruction.
o Maintain regularly scheduled office hours in order to advise and assist students.
• Participate in some infrequent evening or weekend activities, including meetings, professional development or
other school activities
• Possesses an understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion and the implementation of those principles in
independent schools
• Other duties, as assigned
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
• A Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry (or other core science with significant work in chemistry) or
bachelor’s degree in education with a significant concentration in a core science and commensurate
laboratory experience.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Enthusiastic interest in teaching, motivating, coaching and mentoring high school students
• Ability to serve as role model
• Ability to meet classroom and any extracurricular obligations on a consistent schedule
• Ability to attend meetings before and after the normal school day schedule and sometimes in the evening
• Proven ability to establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships with individuals from
diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
• Work in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of
contacts.
• May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
• Be able to occasionally lift up to 15 lbs.
• Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled office environment.
• Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
