Main Purpose of the Role

The Performing Arts Teacher is responsible for teaching and leading the creative arts that are performed by middle school students in front of an audience. Instrumental music, vocal music, dance, and theater are all possibilities of creative expression that we want our students to experience in their middle school years.  The Performing Arts Teacher will plan, teach, and assess performing arts classes in grades 5-8 with the intention of working towards a performance that is a demonstration of creative skill development.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver an innovative, engaging, and high-quality performing arts curriculum for grades 5-8, incorporating music, theater, and dance throughout
• Integrate reading, researching, writing and communication skills
• Prepare objectives and syllabi for each grade level following learning objective framework
• Use formative and summative assessments to evaluate students’ progress
• Establish clear objectives and clearly communicate expectations with students
• Plan, organize and deliver grade-level performances for each class throughout the year
• Prepare students for all-school chapels including Grandparents and Special Friends Day and Lessons & Carols
• Manage costume closet and stage space for all productions
• Lead an advisory group and participate in related grade level activities, including outdoor education and or service-learning experiences
• Overtly support and act in accordance with the School’s mission and values
• Attend and positively participate in all faculty meetings and professional training
• Work collaboratively with all faculty, staff, families, and school partners
• Uphold professional standards of personal presentation, punctuality, professional courtesy, and discretion
• Appropriately carry out specific responsibilities as designated by the division (e.g. duties)
• Honor the confidentiality of school and student information
• Communicate effectively with faculty, students, families, and colleagues
• Engage in self-reflection and professional development through goal setting, Professional Development opportunities, and ongoing dialog with Division Directors
