Katz Yeshiva High School, an academically rigorous Jewish day school that facilitates the growth of engaged, curious, motivated, and thoughtful young men and women, is seeking a full-time Director of College Guidance.
The role of the Director of College Guidance is:
- To establish best practice in the department so that each student and family can gain admission to the institutions that will meet their needs and that will enhance the religious growth of our graduates.
- To foster a warm and welcoming environment so that students and families feel heard, understood, and supported during the college application process.
- To monitor and supervise three other college guidance counselors and to promote continued professional development among the college guidance staff.
- To maintain relationships with a relevant range of admissions professionals at the colleges, universities, and other programs that our students are interested in attending both in America and in Israel.
- To guide our students in completing their college applications and essays and our faculty in their writing of letters of recommendation.
- To implement parent and student programs relating to the college application process.
- To liaison with the administration regarding academic and curricular decisions as they impact the college process and to assist in the preparation and distribution of transcripts.
- To maintain relationships with a range of professional organizations that compose the college guidance community such as NACAC, CANNY, Counselor Advocacy for the Jewish University Experience (CAJUE), and other relevant associations.
The ideal candidate will have:
- The ability to effectively manage and lead an energetic team, work with students of varying abilities, handle concerns of parents, collaborate with teachers and administrators, and interact with admissions officers.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, writing, public speaking, organizational, and management skills.
- In-depth knowledge of universities and colleges, admission policies, application procedures and timelines, and college admissions/standardized testing.
- Familiarity with academic accommodations, pre-college and other summer programs, and financial aid.
- Familiarity with the goals and mission of an independent and/or religious school; ideally, familiarity with the unique needs of observant Jewish students as they navigate the path to college.
- Exemplary writing skills with prior experience writing/editing/evaluating letters of recommendation and college essays.
- Strong technology skills and familiarity with Naviance.
- At least five years and proven expertise specifically in college counseling and/or selective college admissions.
- A Master's degree or higher is preferred.
