Main Purpose of the Role
The Middle School Science Teacher is responsible for planning, teaching, and evaluating students in upper elementary/middle school science classes. Our program is inquiry-based and aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the science department to refine curriculum, evaluate students, and monitor the efficacy of the program.
- Serve as a supervisor for a range of student activities and events such as outdoor education trips, chapel service, advisory, assemblies, field trips, recess, and lunch.
- Communicate with parents of students both formally (through progress reports, report cards, and conferences) and informally (through emails and phone calls as needed).
- Participate in ongoing professional development and attend all faculty and staff meetings and retreats.
- Overtly support and act in accordance with the school’s mission and values
- Work collaboratively with homeroom teachers to plan, teach, and assess
- Demonstrate appropriate planning and preparation for instruction
- Develop and maintain a classroom atmosphere centered on intellectual inquiry and student engagement.
- Foster classroom community through inclusionary, compassionate, and supportive practices
- Uphold professional standards of personal presentation, punctuality, professional courtesy, and discretion
- Appropriately carry out specific responsibilities as designated by the division (eg. duties)
- Honor the confidentiality of school and student information
- Communicate effectively with co-lead, students, families, and colleagues
- Engage in self-reflection and professional development through goal setting, Professional Development opportunities, and ongoing dialog with division directors.
