Summary:
The professional in this position supports the fundamental educational mission of the school by directing all strategic and operational aspects of the Lower School Division. This position serves on the lead administrative team and, guided by the School’s recently developed strategic plan, will partner with program administrators (Head of School and Director of Instruction & Inclusion) to support teacher growth and instructional development, teacher evaluation, and curriculum oversight for Grades Pre-K - 5. This 12-month, full-time, exempt employee will report directly to the Head of School and work closely with other administrators, teachers, and staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):
- Develops, articulates, and embodies the vision for the Lower School program considering the developmental and educational needs of adolescents
- Supervises and evaluates the faculty and staff assigned to the Lower School division
- Oversees professional development for all faculty and staff in the division
- Responsible for a healthy student culture that is supported by all teachers in the division
- Works with students, parents, and faculty to address problems in a timely, professional manner
- Oversees budget for division and works with the Director of Finance and Operations to supervise departmental planning and spending
- Collaborates with other members of the administrative team to ensure the effective functioning of the school as a whole
- Attends Board of Trustee meetings and serves on Board committees as needed to support and implement the school-wide strategic plan
- Performs related duties such as supervising and/or sponsoring student activities, assisting students in selecting courses of study, and counseling or advising on social and academic concerns
Shore seeks a highly experienced professional with a background in teaching, as well as curriculum and instruction. An experienced manager of others, this individual must be both collaborative and able to work independently. As a member of the lead administrative team, this professional will be a part of all strategic growth for the School and must therefore be able to effectively interface equally well with students, families, employees and trustees. The ideal candidate will have highly developed cultural competency and be able to apply those skills to emerging strategies that are a part of the School’s overall focus. Flexibility to attend evening and/or weekend events is required.
Preferred Experience and Education
The ideal candidate will have at least a Master’s degree in curriculum and instruction with experience in curriculum implementation and/or design in an elementary school setting. Successful candidates will be able to consistently model cultural competency and have experience designing and implementing cultural competency development in others.
