Reporting to the Associate Director of Information Technology Services, the ITS Networks and Systems Technician is responsible for providing network and server hardware and software technical support.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- In collaboration with the Networks Administrator and Systems Administrator, installs on-prem
physical and virtual servers, switches, wireless access points and network storage systems;
- In collaboration with the Systems Administrator, manages network/email user account creations and terminations, and creates and manages virtual image templates for servers;
- Manages network print servers and, in collaboration with User Support, assists with installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of the Academy’s print services;
- Assists with managing security and encryption of Academy laptops and desktops;
- Works with Networks Administrator and Systems Administrator to understand the basic functions and design of the Academy’s critical network and server systems;
- Manages the Academy’s switch closet uninterruptable power supplies (UPS) including installation, configuration, and renewal and replacement;
- Maintains network switch closet Ethernet wiring;
- Documents the physical installations of network servers and switches;
- In collaboration with User Support, terminates network data, voice, and phone wiring;
- Traces, tests, and documents fiberoptic paths;
- Participates in ITS technical on-call rotation;
Sign on Bonus – The successful candidate will receive a $1,000 sign-on bonus ($500 paid at the time of hire and $500 at the end of 90 days.)
Qualifications should include:
Associate’s Degree and/or professional certification in networking or operating systems required; Bachelor’s degree preferred; 1-3 years’ experience in network and server systems deployment and management required; experience working in an academic environment preferred; strong customer service orientation; outstanding communication, organizational and interpersonal skills; the ability to be self-directed and resourceful; able to perform a variety of complicated tasks; solid trouble-shooting skills; can participate as an effective member of a team, and work collaboratively and effectively with peers; willingness and ability to learn new technologies as needed; Sensitivity to confidential information; sensitivity to confidential information and a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion and to serving the needs of a diverse community.
