Green Hedges School seeks an experienced full-time Accountant for the 2023-2024 school year. Green Hedges is a private independent preschool through Grade 8 school with approximately 190 students in Vienna, VA, fourteen miles west of Washington, DC.
Requirements
- Computer: Literacy in Excel a must. Experience with Blackbaud is highly desirable
- Experience: Three – five years experience a must. Experience with independent schools is a plus
- Degree: An undergraduate degree in accounting or equivalent experience
- Communication: Excellent communication skills
- Other requirements: Must be able to work independently and complete tasks fully to meet deadlines. Must be able to adjust work schedule to meet situational work demands
- Knowledge of non-profit accounting a plus

Basic Function
Assists the Director of Finance with the ongoing accounting tasks primarily, but not limited to, make deposits, reconcile accounts, and prepare audit schedules.
Responsibility
General
- Adhere to the School’s Mission and Core Values
- Collaborate closely with the Director of Finance, administrative staff and parents
- Work diligently and promptly to maintain positive and constructive home-school communication
- Perform professional duties efficiently, manage resources effectively and meet deadlines and meeting schedules set by the School
- Observe the policies and procedures as set forth in the Personnel Manual
- Serve as an advocate for the School in the wider community
- Perform professional duties efficiently, as assigned by the Director of Finance or Head of School
Student Receivables
- Maintains database for Student Billing to ensure accurate and timely information for the monthly billing cycles using Blackbaud Tuition Management
- Processes accurate input of data to student accounts including monthly billing, cash receipts, and auxiliary charges
- Ensures accurate billing for students enrolled in the Extended Day program, After School Activities, Summer Camp and other student related charges
- Reconciles and generates monthly billing
Contributions/Miscellaneous Receipts
- Works closely with the Director of Philanthropy to accurately record pledges and payments for various fundraising campaigns. Maintains accurate records of such and prepares necessary audit schedule.
- Makes needed bank deposits
Audit Preparation
- Prepares revenue and expense account analyses at year-end for the school’s annual audit. Collects required supporting documents that may need to be reviewed.
School Orders
- Processes and orders school supplies for faculty and staff.
Parent Association
- Processes monthly accounts receivable and accounts payable information related to the Parent Association. Prepares a Statement of Income and Expense to be used for planning and budgeting.
Other
- Maintains a file of service contracts with vendors and with outside organizations for facility rental. Ensures that a certificate of insurance is on file when appropriate. Prepares annual 1099 Misc/1096 for required vendors.
