Maryvale Preparatory School is seeking a full time long term substitute for 6th-9th grade Visual Arts Teacher from March 2023 through the end of the school year. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with Middle School students and an art education degree. Some experience with digital media is preferred. She/he must successfully pass a criminal background check. This position is a paid temporary position which will report directly to the Middle School Head.

Responsibilities include:

• Teach 6th-8th Grade Art and 1 section of Upper School Art 1
• 7th grade Advisor
• Participate in the school community with other duties as assigned
• Work in tandem with Upper School Art Faculty
• Curate and display student art exhibits, including an end of year Middle School Art Exhibition

The ideal candidate will:

• Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in the art field, Master’s Degree preferred; MSDE certification preferred
• Have a knowledge of a variety of art media in teaching including: drawing, painting, digital media, and other 2D/3D media
• Have an understanding of various forms of technology and an ability to incorporate technology within all lessons
• Have experience working in an independent school setting
• Work collaboratively with administration, faculty, and parents
• Embrace the mission and values of Maryvale and our connection to the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur
• Shares a commitment to equity and inclusion and have experience working with a diverse student population
• Shares a commitment to single sex education for young women
• Have genuine enthusiasm, personal warmth and high energy level

Additional Requirements:

• Subject to a criminal background check prior to employment
• Subject to a Child Protection Services screening prior to employment
• Subject to a MSDE Employment History Review screening for Child Sexual Abuse and Sexual Misconduct
• Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required
